Rosacea is a fairly common skin condition that causes redness and visibility of blood vessels mainly in the face. In some cases, it can produce small red bumps filled with pus. The signs and symptoms are fluctuating, with periods without any symptoms.
There is no cure for rosacea, but treatment can control and reduce symptoms.
Treatments for rosacea include:
- Laser treatments and light therapies such as IPL-BBL help reduce redness by directly acting on the blood vessels.
- Topical medications to reduce redness and inflammatory lesions
- Oral antibiotics in more severe cases
Rosacea can be mistaken for acne, other skin problems, or natural flushing. Rosacea can affect anyone, but it is most common in middle-aged women who have fair skin. The characteristic symptoms are:
- Redness of the skin
- Sensitive skin
- Frequent or permanent blushing
- Visualization of blood vessels (spider veins)
- Redness of the nose
- Pimples
- Burning sensation on the skin of the face.
